Some expats feel like they’ve stepped back in time when they walk around Fatahillah Square. Museums such as the Fatahillah Museum, the Wayang Museum and the Maritime Museum offer interesting and educational historical stories.
“Kota Tua is beautiful, I like the architectural and also the old buildings with colonial architecture are very attractive,” says Will, an expatriate from the Netherland.
Expat’s Impressions About Activities and Entertainment
The old town also offers a range of activities that appeal to expats. These range from bicycle tours through the historic streets to various art and street music performances, often held in Fatahillah Square.

“I like this place very interesting. Also very funny to see the school kids riding bicycles. It’s a fun way to learn about Jakarta’s history while enjoying the beautiful scenery,” said Tim, an expat from the Belgium.

Aside from its architectural charm, Kota Tua’s social life is also an attraction. Many students had interviews with some expats visiting the old town. Will, an expat from the Netherlands, responded by saying that it was very exciting to be interviewed by students.
“It’s terrible! Hahaha no no only joking, it’s okay. I’ve done it before, many other location in the world come up to me and ask me for an interview,” said Will.
